Adopt A Greyhound Program

Greyhounds - The perfect pet

The Greyhound Adoption Program is dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds that are no longer suitable for racing. While many greyhounds become available for adoption each year, misconceptions about these dogs deter people from owning them as pets. Due to the fact that they are of the sight hound family and aroused by the passion of chase, people mistakenly make the assumption that greyhounds are aggressive. In reality greyhounds are quiet, well mannered, and very easy to live with. They are friendly, affectionate, lazy, calm, clean, loving, trusting and good-natured.

Pet Wares Plus is proud to own an adopted greyhound! Phoebe was 6 years when she was adopted in Feb 2007. She is a total sweetheart and became a part of the family straight away. Her favorite time of the day is a quick 3 minute run, after which, a 3 hour sleep is required!

She is so low maintenance and easy going. She loves asparagus, brussel sprouts, eggs, cheese and chicken wings for a treat. Phoebe was classified as not "cat friendly" but with a little socialisation, she is now happily living with a 20 year old cat. She is also very friendly with the next door neighbour cat who drops in now and then.

Phoebe is happy to say hello to anyone visiting the store in Moorabbin. She has many visiting doggy friends too!

LATEST NEWS!

Pet Wares Plus has adopted another greyhound!
Bundy will be 5 years old in Oct 2008. She last raced in Feb 2006 but thinks that this new life is pretty interesting. She is still getting used to seeing little dogs but loves her new walking adventures with Phoebe showing her the ropes. It's also lots of fun riding in the car with the window down. Plenty to sniff and lots of new things to see.

In the past, greyhounds were required by law to wear a muzzle in public, creating the perception that they are hostile. In reality greyhounds are quiet, well mannered, and very easy to live with. They are friendly, affectionate, lazy, calm, clean, loving, trusting and good-natured. Currently, adopted greyhounds in Victoria are not required to wear a muzzle in public.
